Princess Vacation Protection

Restrictions - Who can purchase PVP and when?

Princess Vacation Protection is available to US and Canadian citizens/permanent residents booked in North America only*.

Although PVP is not available to international bookings, international bookings have the option to purchase the At Ease Waiver Program.

“Note that Princess Vacation Protection is not available to residents of the state of New York, British Columbia, Quebec, Puerto Rico, or Mexico.”

*Passengers booked under Flash Promotions may purchase either Princess Vacation Protection/Princess Platinum Vacation Protection or the Medical Only option. For more information on the Medical Only option, please click here.

Trip cancellation coverage takes effect only upon payment of the Princess Vacation Protection plan cost. Payment of the cruise deposit without the the Princess Vacation Protection plan cost does not activate the coverage. All other coverages are effective upon the passenger's departure for their trip.

Option confirmations and final payment reminders include the Princess Vacation Protection cost. Additionally, the final payment reminder shows the balance due if Princess Vacation Protection is declined. If the full amount shown on the final payment reminder for the cruise or cruisetour is not paid, Princess Vacation Protection is automatically removed from the booking.

If the booking is cancelled prior to final payment due date, the Princess Vacation Protection cost is included in the amount refunded to the passenger, unless the booking was made under a 3-Day Sale promotion.

Selling Points

Princess Vacation Protection is a full, top-class travel protection plan covering all risks normally covered by third party travel insurance policies and with higher than normal coverage for medical and emergency evacuation. Princess Platinum Vacation Protection provides twice the protection for Emergency Evacuation and Repatriation of Remains, Accidental/Sickness Medical Expenses and Baggage/Personal Effects protection. The "cancel for any reason" feature allows passengers to cancel their cruise or cruisetour and receive 75% (100% with Princess Platinum Vacation Protection) of the cancellation fees retained by Princess Cruises refunded to them in the form of a future cruise credit towards their next cruise on Princess.

Most plans charge extra for covering pre and/or post cruise hotel stays. We cover Cruise Plus packages, Cruisetour modifications and eZAir** at no additional charge.

If your client purchases Princess Vacation Protection, cancels their cruise or cruisetour and is assessed cancellation fees, Princess protects your override commission on the cancellation fees retained. All other commission policies apply.

Travel agents earn a 10% commission on the PVP plan cost.

** Passengers may file a claim for any eZAir cancellation fees, but not the Future Air Credit. Any portion of the airfare that the airline preserves as a future air credit is not considered a reimbursable cancellation charge (and is therefore not be reimbursed) under Princess Vacation Protection. This coverage is effective immediately with all existing bookings that have PVP.

Princess Vacation Protection may be purchased anytime prior to the final payment due date for the voyage, even if the booking is already paid in full. It cannot be purchased after the final payment due date has passed (except for new bookings, where the Medical Only option is available). If a change on the booking results in a new balance due after final payment is received, the passengers may not purchase Princess Vacation Protection if they have not already purchased it.

Plan Costs

Princess Cruises offers two levels of PVP – Standard & Platinum. Both products include a Cancellation Fee Waiver and Cancel for Any Reason Credit Feature1 plus travel insurance benefits2 and 24-hour worldwide CareFree™ Travel Assistance3.

Standard Plan Cost Platinum Plan Cost
9% of cruise cost 12% of cruise cost
Note: Effective with new bookings made on or after August 1, 2023. Subject to minimum premiums of $39 (Standard) or $59 (Platinum).

*Rates apply to all passengers and are priced out PER PERSON. However, plan cost minimums do not apply to passengers under the age of 18 and traveling in a 3rd/4th berth, provided the first two passengers purchase the plan. For Example:

A minor as a 3rd or 4th pays the percentage listed above for the cost of the PVP or PPVP, based on the cruise fare. If the 3rd or 4th berth is anyone 18 and over, they automatically pay the plan cost minimum or more, depending upon the cruise fare.

If passengers 3 and 4 in the cabin are minors (17 and under) and both passengers 1 and 2 are purchasing the PVP and either of the first two passengers is a Ruby, Platinum or Elite Member, the minors in the 3rd and/or 4th berth receive the Platinum PVP upgrade at no additional cost.

The plan cost is automatically calculated and appears on the cruise invoice. On back-to-back sailings, Princess Vacation Protection is priced per segment.

Cruise Plus packages and eZAir add ons are covered, but the costs of these items are not included in determining the amount of the PVP plan cost. If passengers do not purchase air through Princess, their air is not covered under the plan.

*** The fare thresholds and minimum pricing for all CAD bookings are based on the current exchange rate and may be different.
